  1. Chapter 5 Develop a PSA & Commercial Using Premiere Pro & After Effects CS6

  2. Editing a Public Service Announcement • A commercial is a short film broadcast used as a marketing device to raise awareness of a consumer product, service, or issue.

  3. Editing a Public Service Announcement • Public service announcements (PSAs) are intended to modify public attitudes by raising awareness about specific issues.

  4. Editing a Public Service Announcement • The Cartoon effect in After Effects creates a stylized effect that resembles vector art by simplifying and smoothing the shading and colors in an image and adding strokes to the edges between features.

  5. Editing a Public Service Announcement Resembles a sketch Resembles a cartoon Example of Cartoon effect

  6. Editing a Public Service Announcement • The Shading Steps and Shading Smoothness properties simplify the shading and coloring in the image, a process known as posterization, creating a more cartoonlike effect.

  7. Editing a Public Service Announcement • Most footage does not have enough color and contrast for the Cartoon effect to work effectively. • The Levels effect, which helps to create contrast, is almost always necessary.

  8. Editing a Public Service Announcement • The Levels effect displays a histogram, which is a chart that represents the changes in color from dark to light in the image.

  10. Editing a Public Service Announcement • The Hue/Saturation effect is another color correction effect, which adds to the overall Cartoon effect. • This effect is based on the color wheel.

  12. Editing a Public Service Announcement Modified Settings Hue/Saturation effect

  13. Editing a Public Service Announcement • The Master Hue color wheel and Master Saturation setting change the overall hue and saturation of the image.

  14. Editing a Public Service Announcement • The Channel Mixer effect is another option that allows more subtle shading for the overall Cartoon effect and works on specific color channels.

  17. Editing a Public Service Announcement • The Adobe Dynamic Link is a feature available between Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Encore if installed as part of the Creative Suite Production Premium or Master Collection.

  19. Editing a Commercial For Television • The Warp Stabilizer effect stabilizes footage and removes camera shake from a handheld camera during filming.

  20. Editing a Commercial For Television Applying the Warp Stabilizer effect

  21. Editing a Commercial For Television • The Stabilization settings allow students to make adjustments to the stabilization process. • The Result menu options, Smooth or No Motion, control the final result of the footage.

  22. Editing a Commercial For Television Stabilizing process

  23. Editing a Commercial For Television • Smooth is the default option and retains the original camera movement while making it appear smoother. • The No Motion option tries to remove all camera motion from the footage.

  24. Editing a Commercial For Television • The Shatter effect is an effect that is applied to give the illusion of exploding images, but it can also be customized to create 3D text. • To create 3D text, you need three layers.

  25. Editing a Commercial For Television Shatter effect Three required layers Applying the Shatter effect

  26. Editing a Commercial For Television • The first layer is a Text layer, which is referenced by the Shatter effect text. • The second layer is a Solid layer and is where you choose the text color.

  27. Editing a Commercial For Television • The last layer is a Camera layer, which is used to create a virtual camera to get different views of the Solid layer. • It allows you to view 3D objects from any angle by moving and rotating a camera around the scene to get different views of a 3D object.

  28. Editing a Commercial For Television • The Orbit Camera tool allows you to adjust the location of the camera, causing the 3D text and Light layer to follow the camera.

  30. Editing a Commercial For Television • The Light layer can be used to add lighting effects and cast shadows on the footage and needs to be placed above the layer that they want the light to shine on.

  31. Editing a Commercial For Television • There are four types of lights to choose from: • Parallel approximates the light from a source like that of the sun. • Spot gives off light that is constrained by a cone, like a flashlight or spotlight.

  32. Editing a Commercial For Television • There are four types of lights to choose from: • Point is unconstrained, like a bare light bulb. • Ambient has no source but simply contributes to the overall brightness and casts no shadows.

  33. Editing a Commercial For Television • After creating 3D text using the Shatter effect, you may want to enhance the appearance of the text.

  34. Editing a Commercial For Television • There are many effects to choose from. • Two options are: • the CC Light Sweep effect. • the Color Emboss effect.

  35. Editing a Commercial For Television • The Color Emboss effect works like the Emboss effect without overriding the original colors of the image the effect is being applied to.

  36. Editing a Commercial For Television • The CC Light Sweep effect creates a light reflection along the layer.

  38. Editing a Commercial Developed For the Internet • The Puppet tools are used to add natural motion to raster images and vector graphics. • This can include still images, shapes, and text characters as well as imported Photoshop and Illustrator files.

  39. Editing a Commercial Developed For the Internet • The Puppet Pin tool works by deforming parts of an image. • A deform pin is a type of pin that you can place or move with the Puppet Pin.

  41. Editing a Commercial Developed For the Internet • The Particle Playground effect is used to animate an object by reproducing it randomly—for instance, creating a flock of birds from the image of a single bird.

  42. Editing a Commercial Developed For the Internet • The Particle Playground effect can be used to duplicate a vector graphic that was animated with the Puppet Pin tool.

  44. Editing a Commercial Developed For the Internet • The Particle Playground effect generates three kinds of particles: • dots • layers • text characters

  46. Editing a Commercial Developed For the Internet • There are four particle generators, which are the four properties listed at the top of the Particle Playground effect on the Effect Controls panel.

  47. Editing a Commercial Developed For the Internet • They are: • Cannon • Grid • Layer Exploder • Particle Exploder

  48. Editing a Commercial Developed For the Internet • The following Layer Map controls replace the dots with a layer of their choosing in the composition.
