  1. WELCOME

  2. Prepared By:- Chirantar Kumar RG1901B50 A PRESENTATION ONWIRELESS USB

  3. USB CONCEPT • Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a specification to establish communication between devices and a host controller. • USB can connect computer peripherals such as mice, keyboards, digital cameras, printers, personal media players, flash drives, Network Adapters, and external hard drives.

  4. INTRODUCTION TO WIRELESS USB • Wireless USB is a short-range, high-bandwidth  wireless radio communication protocol created by the Wireless USB Promoter Group. • The original motivation for USB came from several considerations, two of the most important being: • Ease of use • Port expansion

  5. development The Wireless USB Promoter Group was formed in February 2004 to define the Wireless USB specification. • In May 2005, the Wireless USB Promoter Group announced the completion of the Wireless USB specification. • In June 2006, five companies showed the first multi-vendor interoperability demonstration of Wireless USB. A laptop with an Intel host adapter using an Alereon PHY was used to transfer high definition video from a Philips wireless semiconductor solution with a Realtek PHY, all using Microsoft Windows XP drivers developed for Wireless USB.

  6. REASONS FOR WIRELESS USB • Lack of easiness of use in wired USB • Inefficiency of current wireless solutions Issues of wired USB • Wires are restrictive • Multiple wires can be a hassle • In many situations wireless solutions can easily deliver same speeds that wired solutions are delivering.

  7. INADEQUACY OF CURRENT WIRELESS SOLUTIONS • Bluetooth Bandwidth of 3 Mbps is not enough for most of the applications which needs very high bandwidth. The applications like video, HDTV, monitor etc. are good examples.

  8. CONTINUED….. • Wi-Fi • One of the main disadvantage of Wi-Fi is its high expense to set up a network and make it working. • Another draw back of Wi-Fi is the higher power consumption.

  9. Wireless USB vs. 60 GHz Few issues differentiate the two technologies: • Line of Sight: at 60 GHz, radio communication is blocked by any intervening object, which implies the need for open line of sight. Wireless USB is based on the UWB platform, which operates in the 3.1 to 10.6 GHz frequency range, and therefore intervening bodies can be passed through with no line-of-sight limitation. • Mobility: the 60 GHz technology is appealing to the wireless video market because it is supposed to deliver multi-gigabit-speed wireless communications.

  10. TOPOLOGY REQUIREMENTS • The fundamental relationship in WUSB is a hub and spoke topology • In this topology, the host initiates all the data traffic among the devices connected to it. • The WUSB host can logically connect to a maximum of 127 WUSB devices. • Topology will support a dual role model where a device can also support limited • host capabilities.

  11. ADVANTAGES • Backward Compatibility • High Performance • Simple low cost implementation • An easy migration path

  12. PERFORMANCE • The 480 Mbps initial target bandwidth of WUSB is comparable to the current wired USB 2.0 standard. • With 480 Mbps being the initial target, WUSB specifications will allow for generation steps of data throughput as the ultra wideband radio evolves and with future process technologies, exceeding limits of 1 Gbps.

  13. WIRELESS USB DEVICES

  14. WIRELESS N-USB DONGLE • The Wireless-N USB Dongle can be installed in most notebooks or desktops and provides true flexibility by allowing the computer to be positioned almost anywhere in the building without the cost and hassle of running network cables. • Using the wireless USB dongle, you don't have to worry about drilling holes in your walls and climbing through the attic or cellar to get connected to the network.

  15. FEATURES • 6 times faster speeds than Wireless-G • Interoperates with existing Wireless-G/B equipments • Advanced WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) encryption, provide maximum wireless security • Supports operating system: Windows 2000/XP/XP64/Windows Vista • Ease of Installation and Use

  16. FEATURES • Wirelessly display PC and internet content on flat TV monitor or Projector • HD video upto 720p. • UWB radio compliance for home or office (US FCC, Europe CE, Japan radio law, Korea KCC)

  17. WIRELESS USB DISPLAY ADAPTOR It allows users to view PC content on primarily TV etc. at a distance of upto 30 feet within the same room.

  18. Wireless USB 4 port HUB • It connects upto 4 USB devices and accesses these devices wirelessly from your desktop or notebook PC using a certified Wireless USB adaptor

  19. Features • Wirelessly connect USB devices • Supports distances upto 30 feet • Removes cable clutter from your PC • Stream audio/video, print, store, and transfer files from across the room.

  20. WIRELESS USB EXPRESS CARD ADAPTOR • The wireless USB express card adaptor enables you to access your wireless USB devices without limitations caused by wires. • Designed to adapt your regular USB 2.0 interface to a wireless USB interface.

  21. USES Wireless USB is used in •  game controllers  • printers  • digital cameras  • MP3 players, •  hard disks • flash drives • Kensington released a Wireless USB universal docking station in August, 2008. • It is also suitable for transferring parallel video streams, while utilizing the Wireless USB over Ultra-wideband bandwidth.

  22. GAME CONTROLLERS • PS3 and wireless controllers use Bluetooth for connectivity •  Xbox 360 wireless accessories communicate over a 2.4 GHz protocol. In order to accommodate this, Microsoft released the Wireless Gaming Receiver which allows wireless Xbox 360 accessories to be used on a Windows-based PC.

  23. WIRELESS PRINTERS • With computer prices at all time lows and continuing to drop, many people now have multiple computers in their home. • A better choice is to buy a wireless printer.

  24. You eliminate the necessity of having your printer be in the same location as the computer from which you want to print.  You can now place the wireless printer wherever you wish in your home or office. • Today's laptops are almost always equiped with Wi-Fi, making it simple and easy to wirelessly connect and use your printer.  • Like almost all computer hardware, prices for wireless printers has dropped dramatically and there are many major brands from which to choose.

  25. DIGITAL CAMERAS • Wireless USB 2.0 Camera receiver + PC recording software- This compact wireless camera receiver uses USB to send wireless camera signals directly to your PC. • The receiver automatically syncs up with any 2.4 GHz cameras within range.

  26. BENEFITS • You can connect wirelessly, you dont need to have a network cable between the device and the network, • You can connect fairly easily at home, work, mulit offices (its one less cable to carry around or leave behind). • you can move around or work at any avaiable or suitable location without having to be near a socket

  27. LIMITATIONS • In a rush towards a totally wireless desktop, there is a danger that the practical limitations of USB become lost in the marketing fervor. •  A number of Wireless USB dongles and adapters are available, but most of them are rather limited when it comes to resolution/bandwidth. • Unless the security is properly setup both your laptop and the network you are connecting to can be compromised and you data be read by others the hardware is flaky, it can get damaged, lost or stolen.

  28. FUTURE • Intel and fellow travelers will continue to drive the Wireless USB initiative into the marketplace as the first commercial application to run on top of the common UWB radio platform. • The goal is for Wireless USB to become the wireless interconnect of choice for desktop and mobile PCs, handheld, mobile, and consumer electronic devices ,allowing easy connection and data exchange at high speeds without wires.
