SCHEDULINGHIGHLIGHTS • ATTEND SCHEDULING NIGHT • STUDENTS RECEIVED SCHEDULE MATERIAL ON FEB. 7-9 • READ AND DISCUSS COURSE PLANNING BOOKLET, GOALS, GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS, POST-SECONDARY PLANS WITH YOUR STUDENT. • KNOW THE SCHEDULE CHANGE POLICY IN THE BOOKLET • ENCOURAGE YOUR STUDENT TO TAKE THE MOST CHALLENGING COURSES HE/SHE CAN HANDLE. • CALL OR CONTACT THE APPROPRIATE COUNSELOR WITH ANY QUESTIONS/CONCERNS. • RETURN THE SCHEDULING FORM TO FCHS GUIDANCE OFFICE BY 5 days after meeting with your counselor.

  4. Graduation Requirements for the Class of 2013-2014 • 40 or 47 credits, depending on diploma. • Passing Score on the Core 40 End of Course Assessments in Algebra and English 10. • Core 40 Diploma • Core 40 with Academic Honors Diploma

  5. English 8 credits Math 6 credits: Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II or a third year if student received Algebra I credit in 8th grade. Science 6 credits 2 credits Biology 2 credits from chemistry/physics 2 credits elective science Social Studies 6 credits: 2 in U.S. History, 1 Government, 1 Economics, 2 World History or 2 World Geography or 2 European History Physical Education 2 credits Health 1 credit Computers 1 credit Electives 10 credits Core 40 End of Course Tests Core 40 Diploma 40 credits

ACADEMIC HONORS DIPLOMA-TOTAL OF 47 CREDITS • Core 40 requirements PLUS • 2 additional math credits • 6 credits of World Language in one language OR 4 credits each in 2 different languages • 2 credits in Fine Arts such as music or art ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: • Two Advanced Placement courses and exams • 6 college credits or one AP course and 3 college credits • SAT score of 1200 on combined math and verbal or 26 ACT composite AND: • No grade lower than a C- in required areas • 3.00 GPA by the end of the senior year.

  20. Preparing for Life After High School: WHAT YOU NEED TO BE DOING NOW • As a side: By Nov. 6, 2010 I.U. had received over 23,000 applications and approx. 7,300 are usually admitted. Check individual requirements of colleges. • Schedule rigorous classes. • Research scholarships • Check college websites for summer programs • Start a resume • Visit college campuses this spring and summer. Check websites for visit programs

Note: Each year 950,000 engineers graduate from China & India combined compared to 70,000 in the U.S. -In 2006, more people in the U.S. graduated with degrees in sports exercise than in electrical engineering.

FOR FUTURE PLANNING • College Night in Indiana On February 24 at 6:00 p.m. the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) will host College Night in Indiana.  This live event will be available on the IDOE website: http://www.doe.in.gov/collegenight.  College admission deans from Indiana University, Purdue University and Butler University will answer questions about the college application process, including how to earn scholarships.  Please encourage all high school students and their parents to participate! • March 15 Greater Indianapolis Southside College Fair 6:30-8:00 p.m.Location: University of Indianapolis
