  2. Libya's longtime dictator Muammar Gadaffi was ousted in a bloody revolution in 2011.

  3. The new government, which is attempting to transition Libya from a dictatorship to democracy is having a difficult time asserting its authority.

  4. On September 11, 2012 the US Consulate in Benghazi Libya was attacked. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed.

  5. Many people are critical of the lack of U.S. security in Libya and the fact that the Obama administration took a couple of weeks to explain what happened.

  6. Secretary of State Clinton has accepted responsibility for the attack and is implementing changes at the State Department.
