  7. Alignment of AMR to RW Strategic Objectives • Water losses will be reduced throughout the distribution network; • Potential human error will be eliminated; • Water volume balancing will be achieved, supporting WDM Strategies • Accurate, real time billing system from dedicated AMR database Operational excellence and best fit technology • The AMR Team will consolidate efforts to meet the needs of our clients; • AMR will be an enabler for effective Asset Management High Performance Culture • Stakeholders throughout business where extensively engaged; • Improved service to our Bulk Customers, billing will have reduced disputes; Stakeholder Engagement Culture

  8. Alignment of AMR to RW Strategic Objectives • Reduction of water losses will increase our revenue stream; • It will also impact our balance sheet positively (Increase in assets to generate revenue for growth; Financial Viability • Innovation of the Water Value Chain will improve our efficiencies; • Resource will be redirected in terms of strengthening efforts in line with growth agenda; Achieve Growth Rural Development - Rand Water will continue to innovate and work towards ensuring that our Rural Communities benefit through these strategic initiatives

  16. Operations & Maintenance drivers Actions Description • Water Losses • Consumer Reading Meters • Meter maintenance and accuracy • Pressure Monitoring • Flow Monitoring • Vandalism • Chamber Flooding • Disaster aversion alarms • Water meters are only read once per month • Rand Water has 1730 meters, which are read monthly • Mechanical meters were most suitable historically, business has to evolve its process & infrastructure • Pipeline performance monitoring will be enhanced • Meter accuracy is greatly reduced with mechanical meters, uncertain regarding consumer behaviour, flow meters will allow for data analysis, availability of stats to improve and better understand consumer behaviour; • Vandalism of consumer meters and chambers are constantly a challenge, we’re also strengthening security of these chambers & meters ; • Flooded chambers are only discovered during meter reading once per month, • In the event of a burst pipe, there is a step change in flow rate, we’ll be able to monitor and response swiftly to this event

  19. AMR Hardware Architecture • Automatic meter reading, or AMR, is the technology of automatically collecting consumption, diagnostic, and status data from watermetering devices transferring that data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting, and analyzing. • AMR systems promote more cognisant water usage by revealing exactly how a site is using resources, and where reductions can be made to improve efficiency and lower costs. • AMR continually gathers data, and can provide this information on a real-time basis. Usage data can be viewed at any time, and once collected, is immediately stored in a repository of historical consumption information for comparative or analysis purposes.

  20. AMR Hardware Architecture

  21. AMR Sites • Magnetic flow meters shall measure flow and compute volume in real time. • Full bore in size without reduction of internal diameter, where a full bore meter cannot be installed, an insertion sensor with the same functionality shall be used. • ±0.5% accuracy above a water flow speed of 0.5m/s under laboratory conditions. • The flow transmitter must have a display screen with two displays at anytime namely flow rate and volume. • Float switches shall raise an alarm when the water level in the chamber increases above a certain point. • Pressure sensors shall measure pressure in real time • Provision shall be made for one pressure input at an operating pressure of up to 25 bar. • Theft proof enclosures shall be provided at the 612 consumer flow meter sites.

  22. AMR Server Sites • It shall be possible to interrogate the software by as push button and get • current data • An ability to zoom in and zoom out on profile graphs shall be provided • Line breaks on profile graphs during communication failure shall be shown • Plot of flow totals per week, month and year shall be possible • Bidirectional communication link to flow meter for alarm resetting and acknowledging via the data manager software shall be provided • It shall integrate seamlessly to Wonderware Archestra platform, InSQL and In-touch • It shall integrate seamlessly to the SAP billing module ant Rand Water Oracle based billing system. • A facility to add, move or delete meters shall exist (meter management) • It shall generate meter management audit reports

  24. AMR Value Proposition • Highly accurate meter readings – no more estimates • Improved billing processes • Real-time data access • Continual data readings enable you to monitor where water is being used at all times. • Each client will have access to full reporting information on each water billing information • Encourage individual to regulate their water usage • Increase confidence in service • Monitors tampering and theft
