Mrs. Mondragon • 12 years teaching experience at CLMS • Elementary and high school • AVID certified elective teacher for 9years (6th and 8th grade) Personal Philosophy of Education: • My Philosophy of Ed. is aligned with Common Core: • "The Common Core State Standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy."

Elementary Schedule: SAMPLE 2 ½ hours for ELA 45 minutes for Social Studies Changes in Middle School • 52 minute periods • Open Grade Book • Social, emotional, and physical changes associated with puberty • Responsibility and expectations • More technology use

Congratulations for being accepted into AVID…Now, What is AVID? • AVID = Advancement Via Individual Determination • A direct support structure for students’ academic and career success. • A structured, college preparatory system working directly with schools and districts. • A schoolwide approach to curriculum and rigor adopted by nearly 4,500 schools in 45 states and 15 countries. • A program NOT just an elective course! Attendance to events and trips is crucial! • AVID strategies support the Common Core State Standards.

  13. What AVID IS NOT! • AVID isn’t a remedial program • AVID isn’t a free ride! • AVID is not a magical class that will make your student organized and successful! • AVID isn’t a niche program • AVID isn’t a college outreach program
