Welcome to Language Arts. with Ms. Barker. Attendance. Attention Signal. There will be times that you’re allowed to talk amongst yourselves and I need the whole class’ attention again. When I raise my hand and say, “Show me that you see me” I expect you to raise your hand and become silent.

  3. Attention Signal • There will be times that you’re allowed to talk amongst yourselves and I need the whole class’ attention again. • When I raise my hand and say, “Show me that you see me” I expect you to raise your hand and become silent. • Let’s practice.

  5. Supplies Required (Bring Daily) Optional Binder (with a section for this class) • College-rule lined paper • Pens/pencils • Highlighters • Markers • Index cards • Planner • Silent Sustained Reading Book

Supplies Cont.’d • These supplies will remain in class: • Composition notebooks (which will be referred to as comp. books.) • Comp. books are stored in the back cabinet and are color coded by class. • Post-its (they’re added to a communal pool.) We use them for many purposes. • Hand sanitizer • Tissues

  7. Material Distribution • If you have your comp. book today, please raise your hand. • If you need a sharpie to write your name, my name (Ms. Barker) and class period, please raise your hand. • Place comp. books in back cabinet. • Pass tissues/hand sanitizer to first person in each row.

  10. Home Learning • Take the syllabus home and get your parents to look it over. • Next time we will take the English Curriculum Guide Assessment. This is a test to see what you know. • Don’t sweat it. You’ll do great. There’s nothing to study. • We’ll finish up the Dictionary Definitions next time.
