  3. PLANNERS Planners should be filled in every day by the students!Please sign the planners every night!Planners are a great communication tool!Planners are an excellent organizational tool!Thank you for your support on planners! Planners cost $5.00.

  4. WEEKLY REPORTS & NEWSLETTER • Look for weekly reports in the student’s Friday Folder. • There will be a sticker for each week if there were no problems. • If there was a problem, a number that reflects the rule broken will be written in by the teacher and a Pink Slip, Behavior Slip or Think Sheet filled out by the student will be attached to the weekly report. Please leave these slips attached. • Please sign the report for each week and return Monday in the Friday Folder. • This is a great communication tool! • Look for a weekly newsletter in the Friday Folder also! The newsletter will contain the next week’s spelling words and upcoming important dates. Soon to be paperless and on class webpages.

SCIENCE Main Science Concepts for Fifth Grade: - Physical Science - Space & Technology - Earth Science - Life Science • Students will be given study guides before each test. • Each week students will be participating in guided inquiry. • Implementing Project Lead The Way building wide. Fifth graders will be taking the Science MAP.

  8. SOCIAL STUDIESNew curriculum this year.(Integrated with English Language Arts) • Geography skills and the states • American government • American history • Economic concepts

  9. English Language Arts • Extended Literacy Block • Reading- Reader’s Workshop, metacognitive strategies, fluency practice, book clubs, variety of genres. • Word Work- Weekly lists.

  10. Book Reports Reading Logs will be used in lieu of book reports. At least 20 minutes, at least 4 times per week, parent signature required for each session. **Reading Logs are due every two weeks! A list of dates is included in the packet. These count for points as well as toward the Reading Circle Certificate.

  11. Writing In Homerooms • Grammar- parts of speech, usage, sentence structure. • Quarterly Writing Projects- Writer’s Workshop, the writing process, effective writing traits. • Journaling and Quick Writes.

  12. MATH • Daily Homework • Review multiplication facts • Sheppardsoftware.com • Common Core curriculum implemented this year.

  13. D.A.R.E- 10 weekly meetings with Officer Blom.- DARE essay will be due in November.

  14. Recess Temperature Guidelines EXTREME HEAT – We will not be going outside if the temperature is above 95 degrees. EXTREME COLD - We will Not be going outside if the Temperature is below 20 degrees. Please send students with appropriate attire.

  15. Medication - All medication must be checked into the nurse, including cough drops. Parent Pick-up - Parents are asked to remain in their car and watch for staff members’ directions.

  16. Parents are welcome at lunch School policy - NO recess • Birthday Treats - No homemade treats - Please notify teacher ahead of time. - Only store-bought items • Attendance – 6 day letter • Tardiness • Leaving early • TESTING!!!!!!!!!

  19. Bullying Olweus Bullying Prevention Program - Reduce Bully Problems - Prevent New Bully Problems Parents are Key - Parents are asked to report bullying to the school.
