  3. Properly Define It • Four types of love in the Greek language: eros (eros) storgh (storge) pilew (phileo) agaph (agape)

  4. Properly Define It • Erosattraction between male and female • The WORD is not in the New Testament • Genesis 4:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife… • Matthew 1:25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.

Properly Define It • Eros is a sensual, sexual love • Creates the warm fuzziez and the adrenaline rush • DOES NOT LAST • Outside of marriage, it must be controlled • A relationship built on it will crumble • II Samuel 13:15 Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.

  6. Properly Define It • Storgefamily affection • Only once in NT • Romans 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another • The lackof it is mentioned • Romans 1:31 …without natural affection… (II Timothy 3:2-3)

  10. Biblically Receive It • One of the most often misunderstood aspects of love: our love for God • How would most people answer, “Do you love God?” • How would most people answer, “What is loving God?”

  11. Biblically Receive It • I John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous • Why? • Agape is sacrificing oneself to please another (Ephesians 5:25)

  12. Biblically Receive It • Jude 21 Keep yourselves in the love of God… • Romans 8:35, 38-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord
