  4. 1. The Gift Of Prophecy • One of 9 Miraculous gift

  5. 1 Cor. 12:8-11 • For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

  6. 1 Cor. 12:8-11 • [10] To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

  7. 1 Cor. 12:8-11 • [11] But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

  8. Acts 11:28 • And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

  10. 2. Some Women In The Early Church Had This Gift

  11. Acts 21:8-9 • And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him. And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.

  12. 1 Cor. 11:5 • But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.

  13. Joel 2:28-29 • And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

  15. 3. Definition of Prophecy • “This was the supernatural gift of inspiration. A prophet was one who spoke for God; the subject might address the past, the present, or the future; its nature might be negative or positive; it might be instructional or corrective.” Bob Winton

  17. 1 Cor. 14:3 • But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

  18. 4. Restrictions On The Woman’s Use Of This Gift

  19. 1 Tim. 2:12-13 • But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

  20. 1 Tim. 2:12 • And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man NKJV • I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man ESV

  21. 1 Tim. 2:12 • But I permit not a woman to teach, nor to have dominion over a man ASV

  22. 1 Cor. 14:34 • Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

  24. 5. Proper Use Of This Gift By Women • Private teaching • Teach children • Teach other women

  25. Acts 18:26 • And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

  26. Titus 2:3-5 • The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

  27. Titus 2:3-5 • That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

  28. Miraculous Gifts Have Ceased • 1 Cor. 13:8-10 • Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

  29. Miraculous Gifts Have Ceased • [9] For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

  30. Conclusion • Col. 3:17 • And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
