  1. English III Unit 4 Day 18- Rough Drafts, Check-In

  2. Leader: Good afternoon, Pumas.  Please compose yourselves for prayer by taking a comfortable position in your chairs.  Leader: Ad Majorem  . . . All: Dei Gloriam.  Leader: We study, work and play . . . All: for the greater glory of God. 2-minute reflection Leader: We close by saying, “Glory to the Father, and to Jesus the Son, and to the Holy Spirit . . . All: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen! ”

  3. HAPPY MONDAY!  Do-now: Each of the following sentences needs ONE correction (whether it be to add punctuation, change a word, etc.). Write the correction that needs to be made: • I went to the grocery store today I bought a ton of fruit! • Semi-colon: I went to the grocery store today; I bought a ton of fruit! • Comma with “and”: I went to the grocery store today, and I bought a ton of fruit! • Period: I went to the grocery store today. I bought a ton of fruit! • I went to the mall and bought: three new shirts, a pair of jeans, and new Toms. • No colon needed. To use a colon, you need a full sentence before it. • There is too many cold days; I’ve been freezing all winter! • There are too many cold days; I’ve been freezing all winter!

  4. Tip of the day: Correct or incorrect? I want to write that I have two trees that are both 100-years old each. How would I write that using hyphens? Two hundred-year-old trees. How do you show that you’re talking about the title of a novel? Italicize and capitalize • Tip #15: Farther and further. FARther- distance. further- everything else. • I can’t believe we still have farther to drive! YUCK! (distance) • I want to go further in my life than my parents; I want to be a doctor! (not a distance)

Is the American Dream a reality right now? What does American Identity look like right now?) • What SHOULD it be like? (Should there be an American Dream? What SHOULD American identity look like?) • How are we going to get there? • Conclusion

  11. Today’s Tasks: • Today is a work day and a check-in day. • Ms. Stitt will call each of you up today to check-in and see how you’re doing. Bring your OUTLINE. • In the meantime… • Work on writing your rough draft of the speech– it’s due THURSDAY. • USE YOUR TIME WELL!

  12. HW: • Continue to work on rough drafts of speech– due THURSDAY! Needs to be 2-3 pages double spaced. • Reminder: We’ll be in the computer lab on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

  13. Exit: • Write one question you have about the speech. • Write how you think you’re doing on your speech so far– are you on track? Are you confused?
