  1. New Kingdom 1500- 1000 B.C. By Kate and Endia

  2. The Invaders are Finally Driven Out The Hyksos are mad at Egyptians and so they attacked Egypt. After the Hyksos had reined Egypt for many years, the Egyptians figured out they could copy the Hyksos’ weapons and armor and organized a powerful army to defeat the Hyksos.

  3. A new spirit A new feeling developed in the Egyptians. They realized that they could no longer trust their natural barriers to protect them. From then on, the Egyptians would be more warlike and they would begin to conquer other lands that were near theirs. This “new spirit” was the thing that separated the New Kingdom from the others.

  4. Egypt’s first great woman leader In the beginning, Hatshepsut was willing to stay in the background while Thutmose III was pharaoh as a small boy. However she slowly started making the important decisions. Hatshepsut was one very determined woman. A scribe once described her as a “raging crocodile”, because she always made sure that she got her way. Soon she became so powerful that she was able to send Thutmose to a temple to study with the priests! Once she got him out of the way she became the rightful pharaoh. She reigned for 20 years. Instead of expanding Egypt, she focused on strengthening trade. She also made sure that she, and any other woman leaders would have their own hill and temple for the afterlife.

  5. Thutmose III seeks revenge Many great things happened while Hatshepsut ruled. The Egyptians were in peace and prosperity. After all, women are wonderful. However Thutmose III became a man and demanded the throne. Soon after Hatshepsut was dead. Whether she died a natural death or if the blame goes Thutmose III, we do not know. Thutmose III tried to destroy all traces of her. Of course since he smashed her statues and threw them into deep pits, the pieces were preserved in the hot dry climate. Even Egypt’s greatest military leader(Thutmose III) could not crush the memory of the women he hated(because after all, women are AWESOME!!). After Thutmose III got that out, he refocused his energy on expanding Egypt to its original boundaries and more. He became Egypt’s greatest general.

  6. End to Patriotism The population of Egypt had escalated to 9,000,000 people! In addition to the people, Egypt’s size had also majorly increased. As the pharaoh’s land and people grew, so did his responsibilities. He started giving the nobles many responsibilities. Egypt’s government became very complicated. You have learned about this from the Old Kingdom. The pharaoh’s armies started to consist of foreign soldiers who just cared about getting paid.

  7. Ramses the great(the second) Ramses should feel special. He had eleven pharaohs named Ramses that came after him. Ramses the great (Ramses II) was the best of these eleven pharaohs. Ramses II was a very violent man. He led many wars. His “great victory” was one. That war was simply a matter of luck. In the end it was solved by a peace treaty. To strengthen the relationship, Ramses II married the princess of the former enemies. Ramses was very full of himself and he thought he was just soooo great. He was the pharaoh who had the most statues of himself done.

  8. Final Years The Persians reigned for two centuries until Alexander the Great from Macedonia conquered Egypt and the Persians in 332 B.C. The Egyptians welcomed the greek military genius as a hero because he saved them from the horrible Persians. Alexander respected the Egyptian gods and goddesses. He ordered a great city to be built called Alexandria. He never lived to see it. When he died, another Greek dude came and took over. The last member of the Ptolemy Dynasty (Ptolemy was the dude I mentioned before) was Cleopatra. She was a highly educated women and she was awesome. Legend has it that she submitted to a fatal snake bite when it became clear she no longer ruled.
