  21. Fugue • A melodic presentation using varied melodic and rhythmic alterations to present new interpretations of the melody.

  22. First ending • The short ending which will send musicians back to a particular place to repeat that section.

  24. Transposition • To move the position of the tone to adjust for the length of the instrument

  25. Range • The extreme from lowest to highest tone for each instrument

  26. Homophonic • Movement in a chordal manner

  27. Cannon • The simple melodic repetition. It is also called a round.

  28. Slur • A curved line which adds the duration of the notes into one tone.

  30. Tutti • Those originally made of wood or using a reed to create the sound

  31. Balance • To achieve the aural perception of each instrument or section being of the same or equal volume without dominance by any one instrument or section.

  32. Dynamics • Various degrees of loudness and softness

  33. Piano (p) • Soft

  34. Mezzo Forte (mf) • Medium full

  35. Fortissimo (ff) • Very strong

  36. Pianissimo (pp) • Very soft

  37. Crescendo (cres.) • To get louder

  38. Diminuendo (dim) • To gradually get softer
