  2. Pick Your Topic • Must meet History Day requirements • Make sure it is something you like!

  3. Come Up With Questions • What do you already know? • What do you want to learn? • What do your friends think you should tell about?

  4. KNOWLEDGE: Remember what you’ve learned. Verbs you might use for working at the knowledge level: *state *describe *define *reproduce *recognize

  5. COMPREHENSION: Start to understand what you’ve learned. Verbs you might use for working at the comprehension level: *paraphrase *convert *predict *interpret *generalize

  6. APPLICATION: Use what you’ve learned. Verbs you might use for working at the application level: *change *compute *show *modify *operate *manipulate

  7. ANALYSIS: Break down organized material. Verbs you might use for working at the analysis level: *differentiate *diagram *distinguish *outline *discriminate *subdivide

  8. EVALUATION: Make judgments based on criteria. Verbs you might use for working at the evaluation level: *prioritize *appraise *discriminate *critique

  9. SYNTHESIS: Put things together creatively. Verbs you might use for working at the synthesis level: *organize *propose *tell *formulate *write

  10. Find Resources About Your Topic • school library • Kitsap Regional Library • Seattle Public Library • UW libraries • databases • internet • interviews

  11. Gather Your Information • No copying! No paraphrasing! • Close the book whenever you write notes. • Follow format on Anatomy of a Notecard. • List your resources by number so you can keep track of where you got each card’s information. • Do your annotated bibliography entries as you go.

  12. Organize Your Information • Determine the most important points you need to convey to your audience. Write out about ten complete topic sentences, one for each point. • Decide what information you need to include to supplement and support those main points. Write a complete sentence for each, at least two supporting points for each topic sentence. • Organize your sentences into an outline.

Give Your Presentation • Our History Day Open House is in the school library one week before the regional meet. • The regional meet is usually the 4th Monday in March at Olympic College in Bremerton. • State HD is usually on a Saturday in the middle of April. • National HD is in the middle of June —in Maryland.
