RAG Key Words: Perimeter, Area, Formula 27-Nov-14 Starter Activity Complete the ‘Heard the Word Grid’ and compare it to the one you completed at the start of the module. Are there any key words that you have learnt or have a better understanding of than you did before?

  3. LO To design a classroom and calculate the perimeter and area of each desk. RAG Key Words: Perimeter, Area, Formula 27-Nov-14 • Today’s Task :- • Produce a drawing of a classroom containing 5 different sized / shaped desks to seat 30 pupils. • Calculate the perimeter and area of each desk top and provide a quote for the cost of the desks for the client.

  4. Assessment Criteria To produced a drawing of a classroom and calculate the area and perimeter of the desks. You should show you can work out area and perimeter. Level 4 Challenge Design a classroom with 5 different sized rectangular desks, drawn on squared paper. (1cm = 1m) Calculate the perimeter and area of the desks by counting squares. Level 5 Challenge Design a classroom with 5 different sized rectangular and/or triangular desks. Write on the measurements of the sides of each desk. They should not be drawn to scale. Calculate the perimeter of the rectangular desks and the area of all the desks using formula. Level 6 Challenge Design a classroom which has 5 different shaped desks, a rectangle, a triangle, a parallelogram, a trapezium and a kite. Write on the measurements of the sides of each desk. They should not be drawn to scale. Calculate the perimeter and area of the desks using formula.

  5. The Task You work as part of a classroom design company. A client has approached you to design and give a quote for classroom furniture. They have a few stipulations which you need to follow. You will need to provide a quote for the cost of the desks, you can either choose which type of desk to supply or you can provide more than one quote.

  6. The Client’s Stipulations • The desks can be any shape but they must be large enough to seat pupils in groups, so more than one pupil at every desk. • There must be 5 desks in the room. • 30 pupils must be seated around these 5 desks, however, group sizes can change so you could have a smaller desk seating 2 or 3 pupils and larger desks seating 4 or more pupils.

  7. Providing a quote for the client • Economy desk tops costs £5 per metre2. • Standard desk tops costs £7.50 per metre2. • Luxury desk tops costs £11.75 per metre2. You must round to the nearest whole metre when calculating cost.
