  2. SOMETHING ABOUT ENGLAND Englandis the largest, and most populous countryof the United Kingdom of Great Britain and NorthernIreland. Elsewhere, it is bordered by the North Sea, Irish Sea, Celtic Sea, Bristol Channel and English Channel. England became a unified state in the year 927 and takes its name from the Angles, one of the Germanic tribes who settled there during the 5th and 6th centuries. The capital of England is London, the largest urban area in Great Britain, and the largest urban zone in the European Union by most, but not all, measures.England ranks amongst the world's most influential and far-reaching centres of cultural development. England is home to the Royal Society, which laid the foundations of modern experimental science. England was the world's first modern parliamentary democracy and consequently many constitutional, governmental and legal innovations that had their origin in England have been widely adopted by other nations.

  3. FLAG OF ENGLAND The Flag of England is the St George's Cross. The red cross appeared in as an emblem of England during the Middle Ages and the Crusades and is one of the earliest known emblems representing England.Theproportions of the flag are that the red cross has a width of 1/5 of the height of the flag.

SYMBOL OF ENGLAND The Tudor rose is the national floral emblem of England, and was adopted as a national emblem of England around the time of the Wars of the Roses.The rose is used in a variety of contexts in its use for England's representation. The Rose of England is a Royal Badge, and is a Tudor, or half-red-half-white rose,symbolising the end of the Wars of the Roses and the subsequent marriage between the House of Lancaster and the House of York. However, the rose of England is often displayed as a red rose (which also symbolises Lancashire), such as the badge of the England national rugby union team. A white rose (which also symbolises Yorkshire) is also used on different occasions.

SAINT PATRON OF ENGLAND In Christian hagiography Saint George was a soldier in the Guard of Emperor Diocletian in the Roman Empire, venerated as a martyr.Saint George is one of the most venerated saints in the Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodox Churches, and the Eastern Catholic Churches. He is immortalised in the tale of George and the Dragon and is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. His memorial is celebrated on 23 April.

CAPITAL OF ENGLAND London is the largest urban area and the capital of England and the United Kingdom.London's history goes back to its founding by the Romans.Since its settlement, London has been the centre of many important movements and phenomena throughout history, such as the English Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, and the Gothic Revival.The city's core, the ancient City of London, still retains its limited mediaeval boundaries; but since at least the 19th century the name "London" has also referred to the whole metropolis which has developed around it.
