  3. * Microenterprise Family Childcare Program * (MEFC) • Coursework and training to set up a licensed childcare business in own home. • Non-Credit course • Residency status not an issue • Free instruction • 30 participants each semester • Instruction in Spanish • Cost: FREE!

  4. Target Audience • National City residents have first priority • CDBG specifications of “low income” • Participants who are serious and committed to setting up a home-based childcare business.

  5. Academics • 12 weeks long, approx 12 hours/week • 60 hours Child Development • 30 hours Business Courses • 15 hours in Health and Safety, CPRand Pediatric First Aid (required by Licensing) • Instructor is an experienced Family Childcare Provider and professional in Child Development.

Partners and Services • Publicity Support – National City School District & National City Collaborative of community agencies • Childcare – For MEFC participants at Family Resource Center Childcare Center • Business Counseling in Spanish offered by the Small Business Development Center • Required Licensing Fees Paid- Licensing Orientation - Application - Fingerprinting - First Aid/CPR/Health & Safety classes • Offsite Field Trips- Local Family Childcare Businesses - SWC Small Business Resource Center - YMCA Childcare Resource Center

  7. Partners and Services (cont.) • Workshops on Community Topics – Arranged by the Family Resource Center. Free. In Spanish. Students choose topics. • Small Business Loan Opportunity through ACCION Loan Agency - - Application Fee - Credit Check - Site visit to home to assess renovation needed to meet Childcare Licensing Requirements • Childcare Resource Library access at YMCA Childcare Service – Opportunity to borrow books, videos, toys, materials, etc. • Childcare Provider Start-up Kit- Incentives earned by meeting expectations of attendance, completion of program components, etc. - Fire extinguisher, smoke alarm, First Aid kit, toys, etc. • Mentoring Program with experienced Family Childcare Business Owner
