  4. Our Purpose The purpose of the District Leadership Team is to provide oversight and the “voice of the customer” during the implementation of the 3-5 year District Strategic Plan.

  8. Strategic Plan 21st Century Learning

  9. 21st Century Goal & Action Plan Goal: The CD will facilitate a process that empowers all students to excel in a global society as measured by a presentation to the BOE (June 2011) that describes the future state of 21st Century Learning in the District. Action Step #1: Leadership and curriculum groups will define the future state and characteristics of 21st Century learning/skills in the Dunlap Schools. Action Step #2: Identify actions needed to move the District to the desired state of 21st C. Learning

  11. Current MS Practice Awards Night Graduation May 9th DVMS - 6:30 pm May 10th DMS – 6:30pm May 18 DMS – 7:00 pm May 19 DVMS – 7:00 pm End school year on the day of graduation, 6 to 7 days earlier than the district

Question as per our 21st C Goal? • Does the current practice of allowing 8th graders to end school 6 to 10 days earlier than all K-11th grade students match the district’s mission and vision and our 21st Century learning criteria? • Does the current practice of the 8th grade graduation ceremony math the district’s mission and vision and our 21st Century learning criteria?

Thoughts/ Suggestions to the following recommendation • Combine 8th grade graduation with an awards/recognition ceremony on/near the last full day of school. • Individually indicate your level of support by placing a number on the sticking note. Dunlap Balanced Scorecard • Each of the 5 goals in the strategic plan have identified “indicators” or “measures” • Historic data and projections • Creating a “calendar” for data point updates • Scorecard posted publicly online • Moving toward a data warehouse that will provide real time “dashboard” of results

  23. Harris Poll Next Steps • 1.) Finalize survey questions that can be included in the “10 Dunlap Questions” for parents, students and staff. • 2.)  Identify Harris Poll survey questions that align closest to the balance scorecard measures. • 3.) Determine the communication plan to inform/education stakeholders about the upcoming survey (estimated administration of survey in April, 2011).  • 4.) Work through any logistical issues related to the administration of the Harris Poll.

Issues… • Need time for teachers to engage weekly in a Professional Learning Community! • There is currently no “time” built into the schedule for teachers to meet weekly • PLCs are a key strategy in the deployment of the strategic plan • To create this time, a schedule change is needed. • Change isn’t easily implemented and sometimes not welcomed!

  26. Criteria The committee identified criteria used to process all of the schedule change options including: • Change should be system-wide providing release time for ALL teachers K-12 • Change should be as “instructional time” neutral as possible • Change should be as “work day” neutral as possible; not adding to the teacher work day • Change should have the least negative impact on: • Family inconveniences • Transportation difficulties • Staffing impacts
