  3. Hand Sewing Needle A hand sewing needle has a pointed end and an EYE through which the thread is pulled. The EYE of the hand sewing needle is at the opposite end from the point.

  4. Spool of Thread Thread is wound onto a SPOOL. Thread is used to hold fabric, buttons and other NOTIONS together using a needle. There are many types of thread. There are large and small spools.

  5. Straight Pins Straight pins are used to temporarily hold fabric and TEXTILE products together before AND during sewing.

  6. Thimble A thimble is a hard protective cover for your finger when hand sewing. It is very helpful when sewing through thick fabric or when sewing for long periods of time. People who hand QUILToften use them. Carpet installers also use them to SEAM carpeting.

  7. Seam A seam is where two pieces of fabric are joined together. Many items besides clothes have seams. Can you name a few?

  8. Notions Notions are things sewn onto clothing for a specific function or decoration. Examples of notions are: Buttons Zippers Snaps Hooks & eyes Lace and trims Appliques

  9. Fabric Fabric or CLOTH is used to make clothes, furniture, LINENS, and many other items. Fabric is made from FIBERS which are made into YARNS which are then either WOVEN , KNITTED or FELTED to make cloth.

  10. Hand Sewing Hand sewing is a useful skill. Hand sewing can be used for sewing on buttons or repairing textile items quickly Hand sewing can be part of a career in fashion or tailoring Hand sewing can be a hobby such as quilting or embroidery.
