What physical activities can a school offer? • It depends on: • The expertise available.A school cannot offer an activity if there isn’t an experienced member in the field amongst the school staff. • The teachers’ attitude – Many teachers give up their free time during dinner time and after school to hold games and other extra-curriculum activities. But these days many teachers have more work to do because of the requirements of the National Curriculum.

Extra-curriculum activities • Many schools offer extra-curriculum activities. • They take place outside school teaching lessons e.g. dinner break, before or after school. • Extra-curriculum activities sometimes give pupils the opportunity to play against other schools and other teams. • This is important because they develop high standards and help some talented pupils to play for their town / city, county or country. • These days, every school in Wales benefits from the 5 x 60 service which encourages EVERY pupil to take part in physical activities.
