  6. JWG/COTCPS • Means of Access • Parallel work in CG/Coatings established at DE50 looking at Means of Access for ballast tanks. It is recommended that this Standard is to be applied to the extent practicable, to those portions of means of access provided for inspection within the areas specified in 4.4, that are not integral to the vessel structure, such as rails, independent platforms, ladders, etc. Other equivalent methods of providing corrosion protection for the non-integral items may also be used provided they do not impair the performance of the coatings of the surrounding structure. Access arrangements that are integral with the vessel structure, such as increased stiffener depths for walkways, stringers, etc. are to fully comply with this Standard when located within the coated areas.

  7. JWG/COTCPS • Testing Of Coatings This is almost complete. Testing to consist of • ‘Modified’ Condensation test using inert gas atmosphere. • ‘Modified’ Immersion test in crude oil samples Currently a small group within the JWG is working on defining the test atmosphere and crude oil samples.

  8. JWG/COTCPS • Remaining Work • Finalize test procedure will be completed by Oct 15th • Prepare Submission and submit to DE 51 –Deadline Nov 15th • Outstanding Issue • Vessel Application (Draft Regulation) A number of square brackets included in the Standard which depend upon application to product tankers or not.
