Physical, Perceptual & Linguistic Development • Newborns • Stimulus overload • Unlearned automatic reflexes • Grasping Reflex • Rooting Reflex • Babinski Reflex • Crying, smiling, surprise, fright • Maturation – Internally programmed growth • Babies show striking similarities in development patterns

  4. Physical, Perceptual & Linguistic Development • Maturation • 3 mo – Lifts head • 4 mo – Smile • 5-6 mo – Grasp • 8-10 mo – Crawling • 12-14 mo – Walking • Maturation can vary widely
