  3. Vocabulary • Improper Fraction- A fraction in which the numerator is greater than the denominator. Such as 54/24 • Mixed number- A number consisting of a whole number and a fraction. 1 ½

  4. Working with mixed numbers – converting to improper fractions

  5. Steps: • Multiply the denominator by the whole number. • Add the numerator. • The denominator stays the same.

  6. Working with improper fractions- converting to mixed numbers

  7. Steps • Divide the numerator by the denominator. “Fall to the side and divide” • The quotient becomes the new whole number. • The remainder becomes the numerator. • The denominator does not change from the original number. • Make sure you simplify/reduce the fractions.
