  2. SECTION 5 • Precipitation- Any form of water that falls from clouds and reaches • Earth’s surface

  3. Drought- A long period of scarce rainfall

  5. Rain Gauge- An instrument used to measure that amount of precipitation; consist of a tube with scale on the side and open at the top to catch rain

  6. SECTION 6 • Flash Flood – A sudden, violent flood that occurs within a few hours, or even minutes

  7. Levee – A long ridge formed by deposits of sediments alongside a river channel
