  6. USC planning Planning of activities related to USC and PM shaft (from today to Magnet test)

  7. First activities in PM shaft and US cavern: Concrete blocks into elevator basement Closing of shaft basement Temporary ventilation Temporary electricity Protection plug on top of shaft 4 weeks - from June 04

  8. First components to be lowered trough PM shaft to US cavern: (lowering done during night time) Auxiliary mobile crane 10-t gantry crane for USC service area LHe transfer lines USC metallic structures (*) 10 weeks - from July 04

  9. PM shaft Material lowering (night time) Ventilation units and ducts TS/EL transformers Coil bus-bars Vacuum transfer line rails Activities (daytime) Permanent ventilation ducts Lift modules and machinery (*) Metallic staircase modules (*) 10 weeks “window” - from Sept 04

  10. US cavern • USC Shaft area • Elevator installation (*) • Coil discharge lines • Cooling and fire fighting pipes • Gas piping • 55 weeks (14 weeks idle) - from Oct 04

  11. US cavern • USC Service Area • 10-t crane assembly • Metallic structures (*) • Coil bus-bars into US - UX tunnel/1 • Vacuum transfer line rails into US - UX tunnel/2 • LHe transfer line into US - UX tunnel/2 • Electric safe room • Ventilation ducts and units (*) • Cooling and gas piping (*) • Cable trays (*) • TS/EL switchboards • 55 weeks - from July 04

  12. US cavern USC Control area Metallic structures (*) Ventilation ducts (*) Cable trays (*) Cooling pipes (*) Ready for racks (March 05) Rack installation Power distribution to racks Ready for crates (June 05) Crates installation 55 weeks - from July 04

  13. Conclusions Components to be installed in USC Service area and related activities are well defined. For the time being, nothing has showed to be critical, unless a minor problem involving the LHe transfer line that needs some works in UXC to be completed before being put in place. Racks and related services to be installed in USC counting rooms are clearly on the critical path. Many sub-system have to be integrated (cooling pipes, ventilation ducts, power lines, cable trays) into a relatively confined space. It is really important to have the final layout of racks and cable routing validated asap. Some services from surface wouldn’t be available before Sept 05
