Math-Common Core Daily Review Skills Based Groups Math for Today Computation Review Hands-on Exploration of Concepts Problem Solving Math Games and Challenge Work It is very important students have their basic facts mastered. Decimals/fractions/percents Geometry Probability & Statistics Algebra Measurement Integration of the above topics

Reading Common Core Houghton Mifflin Series (textbook, leveled readers, intervention, advanced materials) Emphasis on non-fiction Literature Study (whole class and small group) Reading Roles Reading Response Journals Comprehension Activities Reading Strategies Vocabulary (across content areas) Variety of Literary Genres Independent Reading (AR)

  6. Accelerated Reader • Students are tested quarterly and assigned a reading range and goal each quarter. They should choose appropriate books in their reading range. • There are many research studies that correlate the amount of time students read independently to success in school. • Please provide the structure and support to encourage your child to read, read and read! • Reading incentives will offered quarterly for students who meet quarterly goals. • “Millionaires” will also be recognized at the Character Counts assemblies.

Tax Credit Donation What is it? • An opportunity to direct your tax money directly to your child’s classroom • Married filers up to $400, single filers can donate $250 but ANY AMOUNT YOU DONATE IS APPRECIATED! • The contribution amount offsets your Arizona tax obligation Example: when calculating your taxes you find that you owe the state $200. Make a $200 tax credit donation to CUSD/Navarrete/6th grade  and pay zero in state taxes. If you do not owe any money in taxes, make a donation and get it back later as a refund!

  12. Biztown • Parent volunteers needed! • Hands-on learning where students hold jobs, manage money, learn economic principles and even do a little shopping • Funding: tax credit donations needed • To learn more about Biztown: http://www.jaaz.org/programs/biztown/

  13. Homework Students will record all assignments in their planners. Parents must check and sign off daily. Students will be encouraged to keep planners up to date and signed through classroom incentives. Homework will be assigned on a daily or weekly basis. Students who do not bring their homework will suffer a loss of privileges and points. Homework will be a part of the overall grade. Per district guidelines, homework should not exceed 60 minutes per night Classroom assignments that are not finished during time provided are expected to be completed as homework.

  18. Communication Classroom website will be updated regularly. Classroom news will communicated electronically unless otherwise requested. Email is often the most convenient way to communicate questions or concerns. If you need to relay a message to your child at school, please contact the office before 2:00. Conferences will be scheduled two times per year. If you need to meet sooner, please contact us via telephone or email.
