Some Historical Context • The “Most Dangerous Game” presents two characters who have experienced the dangers and thrills of hunting “big game” animals – such as elephants, Cape buffaloes, lions, leopards, and rhinoceroses. • Big game hunting was a popular sport of the wealthy class early in the 20th century, which happens to be the setting of this story (written in 1924, after WWI) – Connell was a soldier in WWI. • Why? Because wealthy people, with all the money and time in the world, sought challenging animals to hunt. The danger and excitement of the chase were a major part of the appeal.

  3. Think about these questions…. • What is “game” as it relates to hunting – give TWO possible answers and describe what would make each the “most dangerous.” • [Game = sport; Game = prey] • What is a trap? Are all traps physical? • What are your views on hunting? Does it matter if it’s for sport or survival? • Rainsford says, “The world is made up of two classes: The hunters and the huntees.” Do you agree with this statement?
