  2. Creating a Theme Statement for your Creative Project • For your creative project, your theme statement serves two purposes: 1] to guide your selection of details, images, colors, quotes, ideas, layout, etc. for your creative project 2] to serve as a thesis statement for your analysis of your creative project • For your analysis paper, your theme statement [aka thesis] needs to include the following parts: 1] “title” of your creative project [What is the title of your creative project?] 2] the author of the creative project [What is your name? ] 3] type of art piece [What type of art piece is your project?] 4] the theme of your creative project that reflects the crossing of cultural boundaries [Remember, to find a theme, start with a topic and then ask “What do I want to prove about this topic?”] [What is your theme statement?] • **Although NOT explicitly stated in your thesis, you need to identify which context-based lens you will be analyzing your creative project through • Sample Student Thesis #1: Adrian Quintanar’s street art piece “Voice of the Voiceless” operates as a from of protest, projecting a message of distrust in governments that marginalize its citizens. [cultural studies] • Sample Student Thesis #2: Adrienne Del Rosario’s gripping poem “Ode to Ilog Pasig,” reflects the raging voice of Mother Nature that is lashing out against its maltreatment at the hands of industrialization. [eco-criticism] • Now, put parts #1-4 together to create your own working theme statement • **Remember, your goal for the analysis paper is consistently prove this theme statement in your body paragraphs; therefore, you should choose topics [such as the color, layout, tone, symbols, quotes, design, etc.] that help you to PROVE your theme statement [What are the 3-4 topics that you plan on using to prove your theme statement?] • For Tuesday’s class, complete the “Prewriting Charts” which are located on the website; these charts must be TYPED, printed, and brought to class for credit.
