  1. Learning Target: Human Eye Anatomy & Physiology I Can… Identify the anatomical structures of a human eye and briefly describe their physiology. I Will… Compare/Contrast structures viewed during the sheep eye dissection to those of a human eye. Relate structures to their function.

  2. Conjunctiva – clear mucus membrane that lines the inner surfaces of the eyelids and covers the front of the eyeball except for the cornea. Lacrimal Gland – secretes tears that keep the exposed surface of the eye moist. Contains lysozyme an enzyme with bactericidal properties.

  3. Extrinsic Muscles – • Movement of the eyeball • 3 pairs • Strabismus – “Lazy eye” • Phoria – weak eye muscles

  4. Accommodation: Focusing the eye to see close objects

  5. Light is focused by cornea and lens on the Foveacentralis(“central pit”) which is in the center of the Macula lutea(“yellow spot”)

  6. The third refractive component is the length of the eyeball.
