  2. What is Service Learning? • Service-Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.

  3. Benefits of Service Learning • For Students • Enriches student learning of course material and "brings books to life and life to books". • Engages students in active learning that demonstrates the relevance and importance of academic work for their life experience and career choices. • Increases awareness of current societal issues as they relate to academic areas of interest. • Broadens perspectives of diversity issues and enhances critical thinking skills. • Improves interpersonal skills that are increasingly viewed as important skills in achieving success in professional and personal spheres. • For the Community • Provides substantial human resources to meet educational, human, safety, and environmental needs of local communities. • Allows the energy and enthusiasm of college students to contribute to meeting needs. • Fosters an ethic of service and civic participation in students who will be tomorrow's volunteers and civic leaders. • Creates potential for additional partnerships and collaboration with the campus.

  4. Blazer Blast • The Blazer Blast is where the little kids came to meet the baseball team. • We played games and had many stations set up for the kids to play.

  5. Blazer Blast Continued

  6. Blazer Build • As a team we went and helped Habitat for Humanity build a house for a less fortunate family. • It was a great experience!

  7. Blazer Build Continued

  8. Wild Adventures • We went and helped Wild Adventures clean up the fair grounds, put up signs, cut grass, and move stuff around to get them ready for opening day!

  9. Wild Adventures Continued

  10. Dewar Elementary Fall Festival • We helped the school set up for their Fall Festival. • We ran some booths, that the little kids came around and played the games and activities we had set up.

  11. Thoughts about Community Service • In all I think community service is a very good thing. • You can help the people around you and the less fortunate for nothing just your time and good heart. • I think that everyone should have to do some sort of community service, even if it is a requirement for a class.
