  2. Changes to graduate admissions process Helping students get into graduate school.

  3. Readmission and low grade issues • Bachelor’s Degrees Outside the U.S. • Changes to Conditional Admission for Graduate Students

  4. Readmission and low grade issues If a student’s transcripts indicate they had academic performance issues at NAU they will asked to develop a plan to improve their academic performance.

  5. Examples of low grade issues • More than 2 C grades • D or F grades • GPA below 3.0

  6. Academic improvement plan • The Graduate College will contact the student and the department by email to inform of need for academic improvement plan. • Readmission application cannot be processed until plan is complete and approved. • The plan has the same steps as clearing a low grade hold.

  7. Bachelor’s degree outside the U.S. • If a student received their bachelor’s degree outside the U.S., the admission process changes. • Unofficial transcripts are not accepted for non-U.S. schools • Applicant asked to submit official transcripts in language of instruction and an official English translation. • TOEFL exam may be required.

  8. Conditional admission for international students • Applicants that do not meet NAU English proficiency requirements cannot be admitted. • If TOEFL is required, minimum score for admission is 80. • TOEFL can be waived if English is primary language or if the language of instruction for their degree is English. • Conditional admission is limited when the undergraduate GPA is below 3.0. • Departments that review students using more than their GPA can petition for regular admission for a student with a lower GPA

  9. Conditional admission for international students • To issue an I-20, an application has to provide official transcripts showing a complete degree. • Only applies to applicants currently completing their degrees • Applicants will need 3-4 months between programs to make this possible • To issue an I-20, pre-requisite coursework that is required prior to entry into a program must be completed. • Applicants in this situation will need time between completing coursework and starting their next program
