  3. RESULTS: 1-Progresive deepening of the deep chlorophyll maximum coupled with sigmaPSII minimum value. 2-High Fv / Fm values during stratified period (p < 0.001). 3- High sigmaPSII values during the post-bloom situation (p < 0.001).

  4. 05Spring 04Fall Four nutrient cocktails - Different response? -Biomass -Photosynthetic parameters YES NO 2. Enrichment assays ( N, P,Si ). Photosynthetic response to four different nutrient cocktail addition after 24 hours incubation.

  5. CONCLUSIONS 1- Significant increase in biomass was observed in response to NP, NSi and NPSi addition treatments, but NO physiological parameters changes accompaniedthis increase in biomass. 2- Unexpectedly, phytoplankton community of low-chlorophyll waters stratified for long time, showed the highest photosynthetic capability. Post-bloom community showed the lowest (p <0.001). 3-These preliminary results suggest that a constant rate of nutrient supply (through regeneration) allows a high photosynthetic capability, supporting Parkhill’s hypothesis of high photochemical efficiency on steady-state growth conditions (Parkhill et al. J.Phycol. 37, 517-529 (2001)).
