  4. Mental Health First Aid in the College Setting Mental Health First Aid is an international program which certifies individuals to give first aid to individuals in a mental health crisis or with a developing mental illness. Participants learn signs and symptoms of the most common mental disorders and how to assist the individual in getting the appropriate professional and self-help. St. Louis Community College, aside from training staff and faculty, adapted the program into a credit course which makes it available to students and members of the community. Making this an official course at STLCC enables it to be offered consistently each semester. With the increase of mental health issues on college campuses, St. Louis Community College has taken action which facilitates early recognition and intervention of mental disorders and helps de-stigmatizes mental illness.
