Our Programme To deliver… • Research at the frontiers of science • Innovative, high quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in these subjects • Collaboration and consultancy for UK industry • Support for teachers and schools in science education • Communication with the wider community

The University • Four Colleges: Science & Engineering - Arts, Humanities & Law – Medicine, Biological Sciences & Psychology -Social Sciences. • 21,473 students in 2008/09 (10,194 UG; 10,649 PG) • 790 Academic Staff, 425 Research, 520 Academic-related, 1900 Other staff • Turnover of £205 million per year

Challenges and Opportunities • The University (and College) is in good financial shape • But, need to generate some surpluses for reinvestment to move forward • Current financial climate is going to make this more difficult • See Gordon Browns announcements today • STEM subjects most protected
