Covalent Bonds • Covalent Bonds are formed when electrons are shared • A Polar Covalent Bond has unequal sharing due to unequal electronegativity • H2O • A Nonpolar bond has equal electronegativity and equal sharing • H2
Polar Bonds Polar Bonds form a Bond Dipole – a separation of charges on the molecule This separation of charge or bond dipolecan be illustrated using an arrow with the arrowhead directed toward the more electronegative atom.
