Environment • Unlike the school classroom that you have been familiar with, your job may require you to spend your working hours in many different types of environment, each with its own potential hazards, and risks. • The Health and Safety at work Regulations require young persons starting work to be suitably trained in all aspects of H.S.W. before they are engaged in their day to day duties. • The first eight modules of your Electrical Level 3 S.V.Q. will cover Health and Safety

  4. Discipline • Discipline is very important in the work place, and in many ways related to good and safe working practice. Carry out tasks given to you by your instructor or journeyman, in a responsible manner, considering others around you in the workplace, and without disrupting or causing them unnecessary distractions .

  5. Timekeeping • Good timekeeping is so important in your adult life, not only in the workplace, but also in your attitude to how you feel others may see you, and in someway related to discipline. Good timekeeping and reliability will generate a feeling of confidence in you, from those around you in the industry, whether they be employers, customers, or potential future business contacts.

  6. Working as Part of a Team • Being a “Team Player” is a quality often asked of potential applicants in job interviews. Some People are “natural” “team players” others, perhaps a little less outgoing may have to work at developing this skill. • In this industry it is very important that you can communicate well with your colleges, work with them, rather than against them, help each other, whether that be knowledge sharing, physical assistance, or moral support. Knowing that you can trust and rely on your workmates, goes a long way in ensuring site safety.

  7. Responsibilities • Your responsibilities in the work environment will require you to accept, • Responsibility for you own safety, and those around you. • Responsibility to the environment when considering installation methods, materials, and the disposal of surplus and obsolete materials. • Responsibility to deliver quality workmanship to the client/customer. • Responsibility to your Employer to conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times.

Ambitions and Aspirations • Why do you want to be an Electrician ? • Were do you see yourself in 5 years time ? • Qualified Electrician • Qualified Approved Electrician • Out of work • Were do you see yourself in 15 years time ? • Hard working Electrician, Always employable • Charge Hand / Foreman, • Specialist Electrician, • Design consultant / Chartered Engineer • Running your own business • Out of work • Were do you see yourself in 25 years time ? • Hard working Electrician (with knackered knees )and an average pension • Collar and tie job well respected in the industry, good pension. • Professional guy, part time on the golf course, Subaru Impreza, holiday home in Spain • Employer, winding down your successful business, and your 2nd home in Florida, Membership on the old course St Andrews, and the BMW 7 series on the drive. • On of work • How important is your future to you..?
