  1. Asian Tsunami Sabryna Taylor 10/11/10

  2. 2004 Tsunami • December 26, 2004: • This 9.0 earthquake was generated because, in the seduction zone there was two tectonic plates that started to slide up against each other under the ocean water and floor. This caused an under water earthquake and the earthquake was felt in many other places. This earthquake generated a tsunami.

  3. Environmentally • After the tsunami, many things were severely damaged. Their drinking water became unclean and polluted, and as a result many people were getting diagnosed with many diseases. • These changes caused many drastic changes in how their ecosystems cooperated. To recover from all of the damages, it may take a LONG time. • Below are some examples of what was damaged: • Coral Reefs • Polluted Soils and water. (as mentioned before.) • Fuel Tanks • SANITARY PLANTS! (yuck!) • Many of which was damaged and started to leak, was lead back to the category of our health.

  4. Economically • People are helping to repair thousands of homes that were destroyed. Almost 7 billion dollars were donated to help the people. • Tons of buildings were submerged in water that could cost hundreds of dollars to repair. • Fortunately, places where the tsunami hit the worst, people living there did not build many big industries. Instead most people made a living by fishing and farming. Unfortunately, since they farmed and fished (most fished died during the tsunami), their lands were demolished by the water. To repair all of the damages could become costly and hard.

  5. Socially • About 4 months after the tsunami, a test was taken on both mothers and children to see if they had the disease PTSD. (posttraumatic stress disorder) Mothers were 20% and the children ranged from 14% to 39%. The following is about how people felt after the tsunami: • 80%= they thought they were going to die. • 80%= they had lost a friend in the tsunami. • 51%= they had lost a person that belonged their family. • 45%= someone/friend had been hurt and was in bad conditions. • 35%= someone in their family had been injured and was in a bad state.

  6. Us • This earthquake and tsunami hit poor areas of the world. In MY opinion if the tsunami and earthquake would of hit us I think there would have been a different reaction. I think more people would be effected because of this. Can you always trust the weather channel? They might say one thing and the day turn out a lot different. So people might of thought it was not going to happen and ignored it. Secondly, I think that rescue centers would have reacted a lot more quickly because we have a lot more rescue workers (this is still in my opinion so it may NOT be true.) and they would respond more quickly. What do think would have happened?

  7. How the World Responded and how the Countries were effected • World- They rushed to help the 3 million men, women, and kids in need of help. All these people were located either in Asia or Africa. On December 30th 2004, the estimated total of how many deaths there were was about, 100,000. In January of 2005 the total had risen up to 150,000. • Countries- The following countries were effected by the tsunami or an earthquake…. • Kenya • Coco’s Island • Mauritius • Bunion • Seychelles • Sir Lanka- This was the worst hit of all. Their coastline was completely devoured by water. Within 100 meters of the coastline did not come unhurt.
