  2. Mark Twain is one of America’s most famous writers.He wrote many books including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer • & The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

  3. Twain was born in 1835 in the state of Missouri,near the Mississippi River.He came from a poor family. His father died when he was 12, so he had to leave school.

  4. Little Samuel spent his childhood in his native town. He had a lot of friends at school & when he became a writer he described them in his stories. • While he was a boy, he worked as a riverboat pilot . He steered boats up & down the long Mississippi River. It influenced him greatly.

  5. In fact , even the name Mark Twain comes from the Mississippi. His real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens.On the river Samuel Clemens often heard the boatmen shout Mark twain ! This meant the water was 12 feet deep .When Samuel began to write he chose for himself the name Mark Twain.

  6. Some of his books are very popular with the children all over the world.

  7. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
