Learning Targets for Persuasive Body Paragraph #3 • I can brainstorm one point that the opposition might bring up to prove their opinion is true. • I can decide what their point fails to consider/acknowledge/ or prove . • I can point out problems in the opposition’s viewpoint. • I can offer a solution that works as a compromise between our two ways of thinking.

  3. Prompt for Today’s Persuasive Essay • Should teacher’s be allowed to assign homework? In an essay for the school board, argue if homework should or should not be allowed in schools and explain why.

  4. 3rd Body Paragraph:Refute the Opposition • “Some might argue . .”What would the opposite side say? • “While there might be some truth to this point, it fails to . . .” What does it fail to recognize/acknowledge/prove? • Why is the opposite view problematic? • What is a compromise that could work as a solution between your viewpoint and the opposite one?
