  3. Over What Are People Divided? • “We can’t see the Bible alike.” • Those who are His disciples DO see it alike! • How do we see passages on: • Creation – Genesis 1:1 • The Flood – Genesis 6:7 • The Virgin Birth – Isaiah 7:12; Matthew 1:21-23

  4. Over What Are People Divided? • What God has caused to be written only means ONE THING! • What about passages on: • The church – Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 4:4 • Baptism – Mark 16:16 • Evangelism – 2 Timothy 2:1,2 • WHY IS IT that Not All People see these passages alike?

  5. Over What Are People Divided? • The problem is that SOME PEOPLE BELIEVE AND SOME DON’T! • Those who DO believe, WILL see it ALIKE! • John 7:17 “anyone wants to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine” • THE KEY? • WANTING to DO HIS WILL!

Over What Are People Divided? • Denominations, Names – Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Catholic, etc. • By its very nature, Denominationalism is Divisive - • “Denominate – to give a name to, or designate… the act of naming… name of class or group …organized group of religious congregations… separate into religious sects…”

Over What Are People Divided? • Sectarianism – from Latin word sect, means “faction.” • Everything involved in the denominational concept is the very OPPOSITE of what Christ taught! • Matthew 16:18 “on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” • He only built ONE CHURCH – NOT DENOMINATIONALISM!

  8. Over What Are People Divided? • Different Sources of Authority • 33,000+ different religious bodies • Different Standards – Practices • Classified under Five Headings: • 1. Intellect – accept only what one can understand – 2 Corinthians 5:7 • 2. The Pope of Rome – word of man over word of God – Matthew 23:8-10; Ephesians 1:22,23

The Pope of Rome – word of man over word of God – Matthew 23:8-10; Ephesians 1:22,23 • 3. Human Creeds – Matthew 15:8,9 • 4. Conscience – Galatians 1:13,14; Acts 23:1

  10. Over What Are People Divided? • Classified under Five Headings: • 2. The Pope of Rome – word of man over word of God – Matthew 23:8-10; Ephesians 1:22,23 • 3. Human Creeds – Matthew 15:8,9 • 4. Conscience – Galatians 1:13,14; Acts 23:1 • 5. The Bible – 1 Peter 4:11

  11. The Request of Jesus Can Be Granted • But HOW? • “Test all things, hold fast what is good” – 1 Thessalonians 5:21 • “Walk by the same rule” – Philippians 3:16 • What RULE shall we all walk by? • THE WORD OF GOD – 2 Timothy 3:16,17

  12. All Authority Belongs to God • 2 Corinthians 5:18 • Delegated Unlimited Authority to Jesus Christ – Hebrews 1:1,2; Matthew 28:18 • Jesus Delegated Limited Authority to the Apostles – Matthew 28:19,20 • Gospel Entrusted to Faithful Men – 2 Timothy 2:2

  13. Galatians 1:8-9 NKJV “8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.”

  14. Important Principles • Man’s way is not in himself - Jeremiah 10:23 • The Fool trusts in his own heart – Proverbs 28:26 • There is a way that Seems Right – Proverbs 14:12 • Must speak as the Oracles of God- 1 Peter 4:11 • Must observe God’s Plan for Unity – Ephesians 4:4-6; 1:22,23

  15. When will the Dying Request of Jesus be Granted? ONLY when all who profess allegiance to Him OBEY HIM –Hebrews 5:8,9
