I. Reading

Read the passage and find out:

1. What is a fact ?

A fact is anything that can be proved.

2. What is an opinion ?

An opinion is what someone believes is true

but has not been proved.

3. What is an evidence?

An evidence is true information which must be

facts rather than opinions.

Reading

Work in pairs and decide whether the following sentences are facts or opinions. Give your reasons.

1. A VW Passat can go faster than 100 kms an hour.

2. I think it’s the best car for a family.

3. I think driving a car is wrong because it causes damage to the

environment.

4. I don’t like public transport because it’s so crowded.

5. More countries than ever before will be coming to take part in the

Olympic Games.

6. It will be very hot when the Olympic Games are being held.

Note that a fact can be checked, but an opinion cannot.
