  2. RECENT ACTIVITIES Florida Governor Eddie Lee’s Slogan: “EMBRACE THE POSSIBILITIES!” September 13, 2012 INVOCATION Heavenly Father, Remind us that rare is the person who can weigh the faults of others without putting a thumb on the scale. Teach us that forgiveness cannot change the past, but it can brighten the future. And now bless this food to our use and us to Your service. Amen From: “Invocations for Kiwanis Occasions” by James J. Muench Member Jim Lee provided an update on the changes we are making to our website and to our Facebook page. Member Carl Krouch provided details regarding our club outing on Saturday, September 29. Our club is going to attend a JU football game as well as enjoy a tailgate party beforehand. If you would like to join in the fun or obtain more information, please call Carl at 424-7331. CALENDAR BOARD MEETINGS Every 2nd Monday Member John Bates provided an update on the various activities of our Service Leadership Programs at our area schools. October 1 – New Kiwanis year 2012 -2013 begins. Good luck, Lal! October 4 - Annual Dinner and Installation Ceremony, Crab Cake Factory, at 6 pm 13001 Atlantic Blvd, Paula Powell’s Office 12 noon October 8 November 12 December 10 HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Carl Krouch 10/2 FROM OUR FLORIDA GOVERNOR, EDDIE LEE (Written 9/17/2012) MY Kiwanis Friends, In 13 days we will close the book on the 2011-12 Florida Kiwanis year. There are two things left that are important and we are doing our best to accomplish our goals of contributing a $5.00 average per member to the Kiwanis International Foundation which will bring 4 additional SLP scholarships for our Key Club and CKI young adults and finishing the year with an increase in membership. George Albright, Stan Storey and Bob Parton are heading a group raising the additional money for the Foundation gift and I am reaching out to you to help us accomplish the 2nd goal. As I write this, we have a very small + membership, but it won't stand up to the club drops coming in the next 2 weeks. Yet, we are so close that with your help; growth this year is possible. Please help us. A couple of folks have asked me why I am all in on the membership growth thing. Simple, 1. "they" said we couldn't do it, and 2. We need to show all who will follow that additional service and community contributions can be compatible with growing clubs. We must stop the 27 year trend of losing members, and we can do it this year with your help. Can't talk about it anymore, and we can't wait for them to do it. We are someone’s "them". You know what to do, ask someone to join, talk to the other members of your club and encourage them to get excited. There are 13 days left, and we can do this. FINISH STRONG!
