  4. QA4EO Principles QA4EO Essential Principle Data and derived products shall have associated with them a fully traceable indicator of their quality • Traceability • A QI shall be based on a documented and quantifiable assessment of evidence demonstrating the level of traceability to internationally agreed (where possible SI) reference standards Quality Indicators A Quality Indicator (QI) should provide sufficient information to allow all users to readily evaluate its the “fitness for purpose” of the data or derived product 33th CEN Meeting. 10. The use of standard protocols 33th CEN Meeting. Frascati 2013

  11. The role of Standards in GeoViQua We need standards to be in GEOSS and the GCI We extended standards to accommodate requirements. ISO 19115 extended Creation of schemas Creation of schemas CSW-FE with Q queryable WMS-Q NetCDF-U KML-Q QualityML SOS-Q • ISO 19115 • ISO 19115-1 • ISO 19157 Quality • CSW-FE • WMS • NetCDF • KML • UncertML • SOS 33th CEN Meeting. Frascati 2013

  12. GeoViQua  OGC • OGC face2face TC offers groups to discuss your ideas and preliminary results and present R&D to companies and governmental agencies. • Data Quality DWG • Workflow DWG • European Forum • Or you can create one • EarthServer FP7 project is proposing the Big Data DWG • Or you can participate or even organize • Architecture Interoperability Pilots (AIP4, AIP5, AIP6) • In-kind activities. Project results can gain visibility and test interoperability with others. • OGC OWS IE (OWS9 OWS10) … 33th CEN Meeting. Frascati 2013

  13. GeoViQua: Interoperability experiments in OGC OWS-9 • Two objectives • Test our model and ideas • Interoperate and disseminate with others (external to the project) • FP7 projects (GeoViQua) can participate in the IE in-kind and can organize a sub-activity there. • External organizations can participate also in-kind • (too much in-kindness!!) • After one year of negotiations with the EC we managed to include OGCE (OGC is a USA organization and can not be) as new partner (in the middle of the duration period) with an small budget (that came from CREAF budget ) with the mission of organizing sub-actions in OWS-9 and sponsoring some cost sharing activities. • We failed to do this as a subcontractor. • We were able to sponsor the WMS-Q and the per-feature provenance activities. • We would like to have an easier way 33th CEN Meeting. Frascati 2013

  14. Results of the collaboration in standards organizations. • Participation in ISO19157 • Too late in the process to help (Participated in Delft) • Schemas has been developed internally schemas.geoviqua.org • (no collaboration yet but we opened to consider) • Small modifications in ISO19115 • E.g. Metadata about quality at the pixel level • WMS-Q Engineering Report • How to communicate “per pixel” quality • Provenance Engineering Report • How to encode “per feature” quality/provenance 33th CEN Meeting. Frascati 2013

  15. An aspect a bit different (an a bit personal) • Being just a researcher in a local research center, I had no previous experience on how to lead a project with 11 partners form different nationalities and accommodate everybody's needs. • I copied some of the: • management procedures of OGC to generate a consensus feeling: votes and motions • plenary sessions, split sessions etc. • UML components modeling, XML encoding • Interoperability experiments. 33th CEN Meeting. Frascati 2013

  16. Light grey: Makes no sense, Blue: We are not going to do this ?, x? or blank: you tell me. Components matrix 33th CEN Meeting. Frascati 2013

  17. I want a GeoViQua 2  • Quality is part of many projects an does not belong to a project alone • We have not created a global initiative/infrastructure that requires maintenance such as GEOBON or OneGeology. • Preliminary drafts of the Challenge 5 (formerly environment) and Space had circulated • I’m not optimistic for a GeoViQua 2 as it is today • I see some opportunities for GeoViQua as interoperability and quality WP of a bigger project. 33th CEN Meeting. Frascati 2013

  18. Do you want to know more: GEO Ministerial Side event: January 2014 • GEO Week: Ministerial Summit + GEO-X Plenary + Executive Committee meeting + Implementation Boards meetings + Side events. • In the Centre International de Conférences Genève (CICG) (see http://www.cicg.ch/en/) • Side Events • Meeting rooms will be available during the week as well as on the preceding weekend (11 and 12 January). • should address GEO activities, achievements, and/or potential for the future. • on the GEO-X and Ministerial Summit website. • Title of the event: A quality enable GEOSS Common Architecture 33th CEN Meeting. Frascati 2013
