Outcomes • Review the Douglas first draft of assessment belief statements. • Give feedback to the Administrative Team on the draft assessment belief statements. • Begin the process of determining building level benchmark assessments (fall/winter/spring). • Preview the Achievement Series on-line assessment.
Assessment System Vision Statement • To provide a range of assessments, including those mandated at the federal and state levels, as measures of student learning as we “Prepare all students to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world”.
Assessment System Mission • Howwe will determine if we have prepared all students to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
Assessment Beliefs (draft #1) • Take a yellow number. • Stand in front of the chart paper that has the assessment belief that matches your number. • Example: • If my number was #4, I would go to the chart with the #4 assessment belief statement.
Assesssment Beliefs (draft #1) • You have 2 minutes to do the following: • Read the belief statement out loud. • Record feedback on the L-hand of the T-Chart • Record questions on the R-hand of the T-Chart • At the end of 2 minutes, I’ll give a signal. • Move to the Right…to the next chart and repeat the process until feedback has been given on all the belief statements (charts).
Assessment Beliefs (draft #1) • You will now repeat the process to read the feedback that was given. • You will have 30 seconds per chart paper to read all the statements and questions. • This is for reading only…no additional comments are needed.

Benchmark AssessmentsBuilding Level Benchmark Assessments: Discussion • Delete any assessment that is a federal or state required or mandated assessment or used diagnostically for placement. • Choose 1-4 assessments that might best assess reading and/or math in your building. • Using a T-Chart for each assessment… • Discuss and record the strengths/weaknesses of using it to benchmark students’ reading/math achievement 3x/year (fall/winter/spring).

Achievement Series • Shares the same platform as DACS. • Has over 1,000 pre-made tests aligned to the SD Standards that are available to South Dakota teachers • Houses South Dakota item banks and (National) ScanTron item banks • Can be used to spot check students to see if they have mastered the individual standard you have taught and/or to monitor progress toward the standard. • You can test more than one standard at a time • You can develop your own test or use a pre-made test • Teachers schedule the tests – they will select what they want to give.
