  1. A brief look at the Infertility Snag Let us start with some shocking facts – about 15% the Indian population, both male and female, are infertile. Doctors advise that there is going to be an increase in the infertility rate especially in men. The main reason for rise has been attributed to the lifestyle habits. World Health Organization explains infertility as the inability to conceive within 12 months of unprotected sex if not conceived following previous pregnancy. Biological, social and demographic factors play an important role in decreasing fertility. According to WHO, the national prevalence of primary and secondary in India is 3% and 8% respectively. Further, as per the 2011 stats the total fertility rate worldwide was about 2.5. It is estimated that India would be the most populous country in the world with about 1.7 billion people. However, the concerns of many are yet to be completely addressed. Infertility is both a medical and social concern, the couple and their families suffer the effects of the condition. It is the stigma in our culture is one of reasons that discourage people from going and seeking help. It is indeed the choice of each individual and couple to choose if they are looking forward to having a baby. If fertility problems come up, it would be good to understand the various reasons and the possible solutions that you can look for. Mental health plays an important role in this; depression, anxiety, suicidal tendencies and grief can affect infertility. It is stated that in couples not being able to conceive 1/3 of the reason has to be attributed to the husband, 1/3 to the wife and the remaining to their chemistry. Some of the causes of male infertility are: abnormal sperm count, problems during ejaculations, overexposure to certain chemicals, could even be because of damage related to certain kinds of treatments, etc. Some of the causes of female infertility are: ovulation disorders,

  2. uterine and cervical abnormalities, fallopian tube blockage, thyroid problems, endometriosis, primary ovulation inefficiency, pelvic adhesions, etc As already mentioned, lifestyle habits play a big part in such issues; Bangalore with its party going and workaholic culture is surely heading towards trouble. Many clinics have been started to address this issue that is largely troubling the urban population. Though the resources available in the infertility clinics in Bangalore are excellent and the treatment options exceptional, a good lifestyle is very important. Only when personal health plays a big part and lifestyle habits are healthy, can all these issues be prevented.
