  2. Fulbright Agreement Signing Ceremony in New Delhi Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and U.S. Ambassador to India Loy Henderson sign the Fulbright Agreement for India on February 2, 1950.

  3. Fulbright House, New Delhi Fulbright House, New Delhi was dedicated in 1961 on land purchased by USIEF with funds from the U.S. government

  4. Foreign Secretary M.J. Desai and U.S. Ambassador to India John Kenneth Galbraith sign an amended version of Fulbright Agreement in New Delhi on June 19, 1963

  5. Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon and U.S. Ambassador to India David C. Mulford sign the latest version of Fulbright Agreement in New Delhi on July 4, 2008 declaring both India and U.S. as equal partners

  6. President Obama and Prime Minister Singh during the Arrival Ceremony on November 24, 2009 in Washington, DC

  7. USIEF STRUCTURE • Activities guided by the binational Board of Directors • Program management and staff overseen by the Executive Director, Adam J. Grotsky, and Deputy Director, Dr. DiyaDutt • Central office in New Delhi with regional offices in Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai

  8. USIEF’s MANDATE • Administration of Fulbright and other fellowships for Indian and American students, lecturers, researchers and professionals. • Promotion of dialogue among Fulbrighters and their communities as an outgrowth of educational exchange. • Educational Advising Services for Indian students interested in pursuing higher education in the U.S., and U.S. students in India. • Serve as a clearinghouse for linkages between higher education institutions in the U.S. and India through its office of U.S. – India Higher Education Cooperation (USIHEC)

FULBRIGHT IN INDIA • Since 1950, USIEF has awarded around 8,200 Fulbright Fellowships to Indians and Americans and 8700 other awards • For 2012-13, USIEF has awarded 177 Fellowships to Indian citizens, including 152 Fulbright-Nehru Fellowships • For 2012-13, USIEF has awarded 211 Fellowships to U.S. citizens, including 175 Fulbright-Nehru Fellowships

EDUCATIONAL ADVISING SERVICES • EducationUSA offices at USIEF offer accurate, current and comprehensive information to prospective students • Active student database of over 18000 in 2011-12 as a result of extensive outreach • Administered the SAT, AP, PSAT and ACT tests • Facilitated University Fairs across 5 cities attracting 5000+ students • Indian Students studying in the US: 103,895 • (Source: Open Doors IIE 2011) • American students studying in India : 3884 • (Source: Open Doors IIE, 2011)

  18. USIHEC: Fostering Indo-US collaborations • The Office of U.S. - India Higher Education Cooperation is a recent addition to USIEF. It has been established through an initiative of the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs of the State Department. The USIHEC engages institutions of higher education in the US and in India to foster and enhance linkages between them.  • It seeks to deepen institutional ties in numerous ways: in areas of collaborative research, study abroad programs, faculty exchanges and conferences of higher education administrators from both countries.
