  14. BREAK OUT SESSION • Break out Session 1 –Weaknesses & Threats (10 minutes) • Group 1 Weaknesses • What are the areas we feel as an organisation are weakening our efforts to be visible • in the community • Group 2 – Threats • What are the biggest threats to our organisation and to our visibility in the community? • Who are some of the other NGO’s and Community Groups who we see are more visible • than us? • What makes us different from them?

  15. BREAK OUT SESSION • Breakout Session 2 – Opportunities (15 minutes) • How can we as an organisation build on our strengths and take opportunities to improve & build upon our Visibility? • Some things to consider: • Collaboration between clubs to be able to host bigger more widespread events • Uniformity vs Individuality of approach • Corporate Sponsorship • Increase Membership

  16. WORKSHOP RESULTS • Our group was asked to consider the Visibility of Zonta in the Community • Our Strengths - What clubs are currently doing to get the message out there: • Linking our fundraisers to our service projects is extremely important • Club T-shirts & Sashes are great ways of people “seeing us” as a group but more • uniformity across clubs would help to send a stronger message • Our websites, community base websites and media generally - much room for • improvement • District initiatives of the Zonta poster and business cards are good tools for spreading • the Zonta message

  17. WORKSHOP RESULTS • Weaknesses • Current Website • General Gap in technology • We are not persistent enough in our approach • Dated Hierarchy and structure • Lack of Diversity in Membership • Difficulty of access to Media Opportunities particularly in larger centres

  18. WORKSHOP RESULTS • Threats • Other Service Clubs and Charity Groups • Incorrect perceptions of what Zonta is really about – For example we are an • Elitist Group • Rules & Rigidity within the organisation – in particular with classifications & • membership criteria • Global Financial crisis & the difficult economic times • Organisation does not “think outside of the box or take on new ideas” readily • Mismatch of expectations • Members who are not engaged

  19. WORKSHOP RESULTS • Threats – Other NGO’s & Community Groups • What are other NGO’s and Community Groups doing that Zonta is not in relation to making themselves Visible in the community • More Advertising • They work in Alliances with other Community groups to produce a greater result • More regular meetings (although we didn’t think that was a good idea) • Stronger perception that these groups are VISIBLY more Involved in the community • Mixed Gender membership

  20. WORKSHOP RESULTS • Opportunities that Zonta has to become more Visible within the Community – Actions • Must have a User Friendly website that sends a powerful message about what our • organisation is all about • Access UTube & Other Social Media, Facebook & Twitter to spread the word about • what Zonta is doing • Uniformity and Consistency in how we do things • E Members of Zonta • Develop competent webmasters who receive training

  21. WORKSHOP RESULTS • Look at other methods of getting more information about what we do out into the • community to access more members • Work more proactively and collaboratively between clubs and with other • organisations to spread the message • Build on involving the community more into the work we do • Rewording of the classification criteria to include women from all professions – • access to a much wider group Thanks to everyone who participated in the workshop and we hope that the District board and Clubs will take on some of these ideas
