  5. Joint PMW-101/159 and PMS-454 Demonstration Program • LCDR Matt LeTourneau (PMW-101/159) will Present Details Thursday • Applications over Link-16 IP: • PMS-454 Joint Fires Network (JFN) China Lake Tactical Dissemination Module (TDM) Strike Package Collaboration (Push-Pull) • REDS NSAWC Strike Package Collaboration (Push-Pull) • EPLRS Situation Awareness (Pull) • Three Phase Program to Demonstrate IP over Link-16 in Tactically Significant Scenario • Link-16 Interoperability Testing in SPAWAR System Integration Facility • Application Interoperability at TDM and F/A-18 Labs at China Lake • Flight Interoperability with F/A-18 at China Lake

  6. Program Team • NAVSEA PMS-454 for the Joint Fires Network (JFN) • Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division for the Tactical Dissemination Module (TDM) Application • SPAWAR Systems Center for Real-time Execution Decision Support (REDS) System and EPLRS Applications • SPAWAR PMW-101/159 for the Communications • DRS Systems for the Applications/Communications Integration and Contracting • ViaSat for the IP over Link-16

  7. First Step Demonstration (all 3 phases)(Funded) • Tunnel IP Packets Through Link-16 MIDS LVT • Plan is to use J16.0 message • Network will use "stolen" Voice network • Selection is performed by Net Number Selection (say Net #47) • User gives up Voice B (for Example) for IP Connectivity • Single Net Number used and IP is Broadcast • Use both 112 and 224 Slot Voice Networks for Demos • Plan to use P4SP as Baseline • Use of Enhanced Throughput to compare performance

  8. Concept of IP over Link-16 Basic Demo User Selects to get IP, giving up Voice B, with selection of Voice B to Net # 47 Link-16 Terminal IP Net # 47 P4SP~16 KBPS Ethernet IP 2.4 KBPS Voice Stacked Nets NPG 12 Voice A 16 KBPS Voice Stacked Nets NPG 13 X Voice Voice B NPGs 1-4 Entry, Time and Net Mgmt MS-1553 NPGs 5, 6, 14 & 27 PPLI and Status or Stanag -3910 NPG 7 Surveillance TADIL-J NPG 8 Mission Management or X.25 NPG 9 Air Control NPG ….

  9. Concept of IP over Link-16 ET Demo User Selects to get IP at ET rates with selection of Voice B to Net # 48, 49… Link-16 Terminal IP Net # 48 ET ~120 KBPS Ethernet IP 2.4 KBPS Voice Stacked Nets NPG 12 Voice A 16 KBPS Voice Stacked Nets NPG 13 X Voice Voice B NPGs 1-4 Entry, Time and Net Mgmt MS-1553 NPGs 5, 6, 14 & 27 PPLI and Status or Stanag -3910 NPG 7 Surveillance TADIL-J NPG 8 Mission Management or X.25 NPG 9 Air Control NPG ….

  10. ET Network Rates

  11. Next Step Bandwidth-on-Demand (BoD) • Assign Multiple Net Numbers to IP traffic • IP Packet Connectivity is Connection Oriented • Transition from Broadcast to Connection by Net Number • Multi-Net Number- Multi-Rate TDMA Control • Potentially Include Proxies to aggregate data for forwarding • Use Orderwire Slots for User Network Access • Identify Packet Connections Needed and Negotiate Net Number • Identify Capacity Needs and Agree on Repetition Rates • Initially demonstration would again be in Voice B Stacked Nets • Also would use one terminal as network controller • Finally Transition to new NPG and Distributed Network Control of IP Traffic

  14. Transition of IP over Link-16 • Plan is for Incorporation of ET in MIDS-JTRS Program • (and other JTRS Clusters) • Enhanced Throughput is a JTRS Requirement • IP Over Link-16 would also be in MIDS-JTRS • As Stand Alone Capability • And Subordinated to Wideband Networking Waveform Layer 3 • WNW IP Layer • Encryption (maybe double encrypt - pending issue on Architecture) • Part of Initial Demonstration Program is to Identify Possible MIDS Backfit if ever Needed.
