  2. Redwood Trees • Redwood trees are the tallest trees in the world. • They grow in northern California. • The barks of redwoods trees are reddish-brown.

  3. Crescent City • This road is in Crescent City. • Crescent City is located along the coast of northern California.

  4. Moro Rock • Moro Rock is in the middle of Sequoia National Park. • Hikers can climb to the top of the rock.

  5. Trails • Visitors can walk along the trails in John Muir Woods. • There are fences along the sides of the hiking trails.

  6. Hiker on Fence • Hikers spend a lot of time looking up at the tops of the redwood trees. • This hiker is sitting on a split rail fence and looking at the trees.

  7. Sentinel • Some redwood trees have names. • The name of this tree is Sentinel. • The word ‘sentinel’ means guard.

  8. Damaged Trunk • The tree on the left was damaged by fire. • Part of its trunk is missing.

  9. Cabin in the Woods • This small cabin is surrounded by beautiful redwood trees.

  10. Log and Ferns • A log is a section of a tree trunk or a thick branch. • Bugs and insects are living on this log. • Green ferns are growing on the ground.

  11. Moss • Moss is growing on the bark of this tree. • Moss is a small green plant with short stems. • It grows in damp shady places.

  12. Snow in Winter • The leaves of redwood trees remain green during the winter, too.
