  1. Welcome to De Anza!

  2. Agenda • Essay 1: Personal Narrative • Important: You do not need to mention community health or use the words community health in your essay. The focus is your story.

  3. Essay 1 You should have a full draft of your essay that you can exchange with someone else. How many pages do you have written?

  4. Essay 1 The rubric for the workshop today is available on the course web page. You should also evaluate your own essay according to this rubric. Note that the rubric is incomplete (I will go over other aspects of the rubric tomorrow).

  5. Essay 1 Exchange your essay with someone else. Either write your name on the essay or, if the essay is on a laptop, write your name and your partner’s name on a separate sheet of paper. Indicate clearly who wrote the essay and who is evaluating the essay. Essay writer: Your partner’s name (if the writer did not put his or her name at the top of the first page) Workshop partner: Your name

  6. Essay 1 Exchange your essay with someone else. You will turn in your workshop checklist along with your final draft. If you have a printed copy then your partner should write directly on your printed copy and answer all of the questions on the checklist on your printed copy. If your essay is on a laptop then you will turn in the separate sheet of paper that your partner used to answer the questions on the workshop checklist.

  7. Homework • If possible, discuss comments with your partner. • Edit your essay based on comments and your own evaluation of your essay according to the rubric. • Keep the workshop checklist because you will turn that in along with your final draft.
